Revlon TOP SPEED 730 Royal Review

I’m in love. First of all, I got this Royal nail polish by Revlon a few months ago, but I was very hesitant to use it. Medium to dark shades of blue are my favourite when it comes to nail polish (and I only have about two left now), so I’m holding on to them for as long as I could. I fell in love with this Royal blue as soon as I saw it and kept waiting for the perfect event to wear it to.  Well, one finally popped up.

I had cut all my nails off on impulse some days before so I bought some falsies, cut them down to the normal length of my nails and used the polish along with Celeb City by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Colour. Celeb City is also one of the best nail polish I’ve ever used but I’m planning to review it separately later on.

The Royal was very thick so I applied only one coat. I didn’t mind however because two coats made it overly dark- which I didn’t want. I wish it came with a thicker brush though… I had to take care so that it didn’t look ‘too chunky‘ in certain areas when it dried. I probably should have changed the brush myself. It would also probably take a looong time to dry- like I said, it’s very thick. It didn’t chip, (but then I had on falsies after all).

I wore them for like four days until they all fell off.

I may probably reuse these sometime in the future. My nails are back to normal length and I’ve worn the polish on my natural nails since then  for about two days only. I had no problems with it on my natural nail either. This is a polish I would actually hunt for and buy again if it ever dried out. I looove the colour. The polish quality is nice also. I just wish I had a thicker brush for it.

25 Books for 2013

With the first two months of 2013 gone, I’ve finally decided to start tackling some of the books on my 2013 to-read list. Some of these books have been on my to-read list for a very long time- months and even a few years. Others, I am now discovering through recommendations, or I’ve watched the movie and decided to give the book a read. There are three books here that I’ve read a very long time ago and enjoyed- To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, To Sir with Love by E. R. Braithwaite and Beaches by  Iris Rainer Dart. These I’m re-reading and hopefully with a new perspective now that I’m little older.

My minimum aim for this year is 25 books, as I really hope to go beyond 30. Here’s my 25 (the must-reads):

And Finally, Maya Angelou’s Autobiographical Series..

T&T Carnival: Masquerade Dream

Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2013 has come and gone. And who was not there? Me.
One costume that I really had my eye on this year was Azure by the Tribe Mas Band. pic3Of all the costumes that I saw myself
masquerading in my carnival dreams, Azure by the Tribe Mas Band topped them off.

With Trinidad’s Carnival finally over, I am anxiously awaiting our own upcoming Carnival. Carnival in Trinidad is one of (if not) the most looked forward to in the Caribbean and is definitely on my list of events to not miss in the very near future. Carnival climaxes on Tuesday with masqueraders taking to the streets to display their costumes. Ooooh the costumes..

THE COSTUMES. I love Trinidad’s carnival costumes with a passion. The traditional type costumes and the ‘bikini and feathers alone’ costumes are equally amazing. However every year I keep my eyes on the party bands, as I call them. These bands are fun over competition and cater for a good party time on the road. Their costumes are the original bikini and feathers costumes, and the best. They are light and allow you to get on, misbehave and party hard. I love these itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny barely covering costumes, though some may label them too skimpy and non-traditional.

I’ve yet to muster up the courage to wear one. (I’m just really afraid of my boobs falling out in public. It’s one of my worst nightmares.) So, tell me what you think. I’ve also attached some links for those of you wondering how you can get into the Carnival fun in the future.

Checking In

Hey Lovelies,

I know I’ve been MIA lately, but I am really working endlessly (in my down time) on ideas, drafts etc. for the blog. As the blog is in its young stage- I will be doing changes to appearance and building a logo. I hope to present these to you soon. Hope you guys are great! Much love today..

Nail Polish: Heartthrob

Today I tried Heartthrob by CONFETTI nail colour. I’m more into bright colours but I decided to try this ‘nude’ shade and I loved it.

Heartthrob was much darker than my other nude colours but it blended perfectly with my complexion. The colour actually has a more pinkish hue to it than it appears in my photos. Oops..

The other nudes which I have (and I really love these also) are Peachful Breeze by Sally Hansen and Air Sign by jane nail polish.

I remember working at this place once where they didn’t allow long nails and brightly coloured nails from female workers- which is understandable, so I wore no polish at all. I wish I had this Heartthrob by Confetti back then. My natural nail is extra dull pink so I consider a great nude colour a must a my collection. The polish provides the added shine and consistency, while still looking natural.

Heartthrob PROS (3): The polish has the right consistency, not too thick-not too thin. The colour has a natural look plus shine without a top coat. The polish does not chip as easily as some others would.

Heartthrob CONS (1): It may actually take more than two coats if you are trying to achieve the exact look of the bottle. I used only two coats as I never go beyond two. My end result was still a few shades lighter than the actual colour of the polish.

Who would I recommend it to? If you love the colour, great. If you’re looking for a perfect nude shade and you know that this colour would match your skin tone thereby creating the perfect nude look, even better. Try It.

What’s in your Make-Up Bag?

I’m not a make-up guru, but lately I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to learn new tips and tricks to add to my very simple routine. And by spending time, I mean to say looking at those amateurs on YouTube who really seem to know what they’re doing.

I’m always impressed by the seemingly effortless yet noticeably great tips that most of these YouTubers demonstrate. I’ve been planning on experimenting a bit myself. My experience with make-up is poor and so is my knowledge when it comes to the use of most products. Reason being, I just never bothered to learn before.

My products last months as I hardly ever use them. This you could see quite clearly from their condition. So mission one; my make-up bag needs a complete make-over. Everything must go. I plan to start updating within the upcoming months and I will definitely be doing a Before/ After on this. This is the before.

My most frequently used: Eyeliners/ Lip-liners.

Up until lately I’ve been using black or purple eyeliner on my eyes, and that was it. The pink, I use occasionally to line my lips and most recently I’ve started using brown to fill in my eyebrows. The brown eyeliner has now become my most-used and a daily thing for now.

The Never Used: I’m not really a fan of eye-shadow. Honestly, my mind was almost against eyeshadow until I came across L’oreal Paris H.I.P Concentrated Shadow Duo. This is the only brand I’ve been at peace with. However, after a reaction test at home I never really used it. The color, which is called Cheeky, doesn’t really stand out or do anything for my eyes. As you can see it blends with my skin colour.

Colours such as blue and green contrast well with my skin tone. I will be adding the GunMetal and Showy to my wishlist, just for a pop of colour when needed.

My Must- Have: Always a good mascara and a spare brush.

The Odd-Additions: Remember when extra-popping pink lip colour was cute? Or is it still? Well I went and got myself a cheapie lipstick. Y’know..the whole barbie-looking thing lol. I always coat lipstick with a bit of  lip gloss to cure the dry feeling.

It actually matched me well so I’m holding on to it.

I will be thinking up more subtle colours to add to my wishlist also.

The aim is variety. If you have a’ve seen how my What’s in your Makeup-Bag is suffering, Offer it up.
